The Children of female prisoners launches a law to prevent the imprisonment of female debtors
The Children of female Prisoners association launched a draft law to prevent the imprisonment of male and female debtors by amending Article 341 of the Penal Code. This came during the press conference held to announce the draft law, on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at the Cairo Library in Zamalek. This is within the framework of the National Coalition for the Protection of Women, affiliated with the New Life Project, entitled “Towards a Legislative Amendment to the Case of female debtors”.
The writer, Nawal Mustafa, the founder and CEO of the CFPA Association, opened the press conference, and focused during her speech on the reason behind the formation of the National Alliance; This is done by seeking the help of experts in law, economics, the media, and civil society, with the people’s representatives being the most critical partner for the success of this idea, and providing practical, realistic, implementable solutions to protect these poor women, who do not have the minimum level of legal awareness, from The risk of imprisonment and displacement of their children as an inevitable consequence of this fate.
It is worth to be mentioned; That the House of Representatives, in its session held on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, headed by Counselor Hanafi Jabali, agreed to refer to the draft law submitted by Representative Abdel Moneim Imam and 60 deputies to amend the Penal Code to develop a legal solution to the issue of female debtors by transferring debt from criminal to civil to the Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee.
The Children of female prisoners’ care association (CFPA) was founded in 1990 after a large press campaign on the pages of the Egyptian newspaper “Al-Akhbar” (one of the largest Egyptian newspapers).
